More than 4 in 10 Americans (44%), including 50% in their 20s dont believe that they need to be married to validate the commitment of a long-term relationship, according to a survey from AOL Personals (http://personals.aol.com) and Zogby*. This is just one of the many findings from a new interactive survey of Americans age 20 to 69 that tackles how different generations view a wide range of relationship issues from love to soul mates, money and trust. While many dont believe marriage is the ultimate symbol of commitment, there are significant differences among older and younger adults regarding how they view dating while nearly half of Americans said they would date someone who is not interested in a long-term relationship, older adults tend to be more open to dating without fixating on how long a relationship might last.

One in 100 US adults behind bars: study
WASHINGTON: More than one in 100 adults are now behind bars in the United States, home to the worlds largest penal population, with a startling one in nine young black men incarcerated, a study showed Thursday.
The prison and jail population rose by 25,000 to 2.3 million last year, out of a US adult population of 230 million, bringing the incarceration rate to one in 99.1 for the first time in US history, said the Pew Centre on the States. By comparison, China, with a population of one billion people, was second in the world with 1.5 million inmates, followed by Russia with 890,000 people in the slammer, said the study.
America also has the dubious distinction of leading the planet in the rate of incarceration, which is higher than nations like South Africa and Iran.

BR’s Cyntreniks trying to buy Alexandria hotel
ALEXANDRIA (AP) — A Baton Rouge company is putting together a new proposal to buy the Hotel Bentley, a historic landmark that is now shuttered in downtown Alexandria. Cyntreniks Hospitality Co. LLC President John Schneider said Thursday that financing assurances from banking and investment giant Morgan Stanley and another firm, coupled with a special taxing district proposed for a part of Alexandria, make the deal more probable than ever. Schneider said the offer to Bentley owner Bob Dean of Baton Rouge would be "somewhere south" of $6.5 million. He also said buying the Bentley is part of a $15 million project to bring the 178-room hotel to life again. Cyntreniks has tried for a year and a half to buy and refurbish the Bentley, which Dean closed in December 2004.

Tempe sting nets prostitution arrests
Six women, one man, and a 17-year-old girl were arrested during the five-hour sting, said Sgt. Mike Horn, Tempe police spokesman. All of the suspects were charged with prostitution, but Horn said the 17-year-old will move through juvenile court before a decision is made as to whether or not she will be tried as an adult. Police do not believe any of the suspects were connected with each other. Horn said undercover officers contacted the suspects after they advertised their services on Web sites such as craigslist.com. Horn said five of the suspects are from out of state, which is common for people who advertise on social networking sites. He said events such as the Super Bowl and FBR Open sometimes attract prostitution, but the suspects arrested Wednesday did not give any indication they were in town for these major events.
