| Quick attacks highway robbery
FORMER Labor MP Harry Quick says money wanted for the Kingston bypass will be used to prop up northern marginal seats. Mr Quick said he would be surprised if the road was finished before 2010 because Tasmania now had to rely on the State Government to pay half the $30 million. On Tuesday, it was revealed that a budgeted plan by the previous federal government to spend $30 million on the bypass was off. The Rudd Government would keep its promise to half-fund the bypass, leaving the Lennon Government to fork out $15 million as agreed. Each year, daily traffic on the Southern Outlet grows by more than 1000 vehicles, frustrating peak-hour commuters. Mr Quick posted one of more than 50 comments on the Mercury website yesterday. "Why was I not surprised to read via the net in today's Mercury that once again the Federal Government had shafted the people of Franklin?" he wrote from Beijing.
Long-Wed Couples Offer Lessons in Love
One of my favorite spectator sports involves watching long-married couples interact. Their gestures and mannerisms, comments and silences, form a private language, spoken and unspoken, that each pair has honed during their 50 or 60 years together. Consider the way a husband absently pats his wife's shoulder as they walk, or the way she straightens his collar or brushes off a piece of lint, real or imagined, on his coat. Watch the way he says, "Ready to go, Mother?" when they finish their meal in a restaurant. The way she smiles patiently as he tells a favorite story or joke for the thousandth time. And the way he opens her car door - a vestige of gallantry from an earlier age. With their easy familiarity and quiet solicitude, these couples serve as unsuspecting examples of patience and enduring affection.
How rich do you feel?
That would have put you among the 1.2 million Canadians who make up the top five per cent of tax filers in the country. The top 1 per cent made $181,000 or more. If you earn $56,500 a year, you're making more than 80 per cent of Canadians who filed a tax return. Another StatsCan report found that the average net worth of Canadian families increased from $120,451 in 1999 to $148,350 in 2005. A survey by MoneySense magazine concluded that to be considered middle class, your net worth should be between $92,000 and $244,000 — an increase of about 50 per cent in four years. · Audio feature: Net worth and the middle class Your net worth would have to be $650,000 to be considered upper crust — yet in some parts of Canada that's not enough to buy you a house.
Kosovo lights up the EU
The rich country's will leave the EU again, so stop promoting Kosovo in the EU, the majority of the EU citizens didn't even want Romania, poland etc etc in the EU. Wait till next elections in the Netherlands where the strong anti-EU political party will win the elections. .

Ron Paul's one-night stand
Jared speculated that for every one person who joins Republicans and quickly bolts after the caucus, there will be several who will stay. So it's a net, long-term gain to bring new folks into the fold, he said. So how much of a movement does Paul have underneath the numbers captured by traditional polling? Nobody knows. "Anything new moving in that we're attracting is not being measured in that," Jared said. (Contact M.E. Sprengelmeyer at sprengelmeyerm@shns.com) .

A royal marriage - The wedding
John Leicester wrote, "From Windsor to Monaco and beyond, many royal marriages have turned sour or been tainted by scandal, with illegitimate children, divorces, sordid affairs and tragedies that tabloids dole up to publics whose appetite for the dirty laundry of royalty is seemingly unquenchable."However, on the contrary, it's worth reminding them that Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh celebrated their diamond-wedding anniversary in November 2007.21-year-old Princess Elizabeth married the Royal Navy Lt. Philip Mountbatten, a prince of Greece and Denmark five years her senior and a distant cousin, on Nov. 20, 1947, in London at Church Westminster Abbey. In keeping with wedding traditions, cloth that decorated the altar at the ceremony was both old and borrowed.
