| Framingham police arrest two women in online prostitution sting
Police arrested and charged two women with prostitution at a local hotel on Monday, after officers found the pair's ad for sex posted on the Web site Craigslist.org. The arrest was made by an undercover officer, said Police Lt. Paul Shastany, after police responded to an ad for sexual services on Craigslist, which offers a wide range of postings for jobs, items for sale, personals and some advertising sexual services . "We do it from time to time, based on information we receive from the community as well as what the detectives learn from these investigations," said Shastany. Ester Mirian Reis, 24, of 2 Breck St., Milton, and Ashley Lynn Walser, 23, of 263 Fuller St., Dorchester, were arrested and charged with prostitution early Monday morning, said Shastany.
Oasis, Stone Roses singers to join Freebass
Liam Gallagher is to front a Manchester supergroup. The Oasis singer will joined former Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown and Freebass, a bass guitar trio made up of former Smiths star Andy Rourke, New Order's Peter Hook and Primal Scream's Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, for the Manchester Vs. Cancer charity concert on Feb. 23. Britain's The Sun newspaper reported that Gallager and Brown will sing with Freebass. "It will be one of the musical events of the year; Manchester music fans will be in rock 'n' roll heaven," a concert source told the newspaper. .
Your Steak — Medium, Rare or Cloned?
Last month the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the sale of cloned meat in the U.S., having determined that products from cloned cattle, pigs and goats are as safe to eat as meat from their naturally reproduced brethren. That makes advocates happy: Cloning enables the livestock industry to do in a fraction of the time what breeders have been doing throughout history, narrowing the gene pool to its most desirable genes. Beyond that, say cloners, future benefits include production of genetically engineered animals that could offer a variety of benefits more nutrient-rich milk, for example, for people without adequate access to food. .
McCain’s life experiences will suit road ahead
John McCain was not my first choice. Or even the second or third. He'd be far more appealing with a Southern conservative as a running mate — former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, or Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, to name three. But conservative running mate or not, Mitt Romney's class-act exit leaves McCain without serious challenge for the nomination. And as both Romney and McCain noted in same-day speeches to the Conservative Political Action Conference, this election is not about shades of gray. "Elections in this country are fought within margins of small differences," said McCain. "This one will not be. We are arguing about hugely consequential things." Romney's departing words defined the immediate course for conservatives.
Swan blames inflation rise on previous govt
Indeed it now looks like the low unemployment rates in 2007 were in part a mirage - in the sense that they were never sustainable. Agree (0) Alert moderator Doh: 23 Jan 2008 3:42:43pm I think unemployement rates just fell again Fred.Is that a result of the great enlightenment under Labor, or the dark ages of Liberals.Leave out the political football and things become much clearer. Agree (0) Alert moderator Brisnae: 23 Jan 2008 4:23:45pm Don't blame governments for high inflation. Blame consumers for spending beyond their means and credit facilitators and money lenders for irresponsible lending to people whom they shouldn't be lending.
Anger as royals snub Hillary funeral
NO member of the British royal family will attend the funeral of Sir Edmund Hillary in Auckland tomorrow, sparking outrage from locals who viewed the mountaineer as New Zealand royalty. Hillary died, aged 88, at his Auckland home on January 11 after a long illness. It had been expected the Queen would send a member of her family to represent the British royals at the state funeral, but it was announced on the weekend that New Zealand Governor-General Anand Satyanand would represent the head ofstate. Australia's Governor-General, Michael Jeffrey, will not attend the funeral, having already been committed to travel to Antarctica tomorrow to open the continent's new airport runway. Given that Hillary, the first man to climb Mt Everest with sherpa Tenzing Norgay, is regularly described as "New Zealand's greatest", the failure of any British royals to attend his funeral has been taken as a snub.

Health farce gets activist clucking
VETERAN animal rights campaigner Pam Clarke has joined calls for the State Government to better regulate the state's egg industry. Mrs Clarke said yesterday her years spent raiding battery egg farms around Australia revealed putrid conditions. Concerns about the state's egg industry have been prompted by an outbreak of salmonella in Hobart linked to contaminated eggs. At least 79 people have become seriously ill following the latest outbreak. Mrs Clarke said egg operations needed to be more closely monitored. "There is nothing worse than cramming thousands of animals into a small area where their droppings are gathering three-feet high," she said. "It is common sense." This week, the Tasmanian Greens said the Government's regulatory failures were responsible for the salmonella outbreak.
New Global Study From M-A-C AIDS Fund Uncovers Surprising Reality That ...
NEW YORK, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- A new global study from the M-A-C AIDS Fund, the philanthropic arm of Estee Lauder-owned (NYSE: EL) M-A-C cosmetics, shockingly reveals that after a quarter of a century of HIV and AIDS, nearly half of people still do not view the disease as a deadly affliction. Globally, more then 40 percent of respondents do not understand that AIDS always results in fatality. In a collusion of opinion and fact, this first-ever perception audit also found that 86 percent of adults in the United States, UK, France, Russia, China, India, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa believe stigma and shame to be a contributor to the spread of HIV. Seventy-six percent report lack of access to treatment to be a problem as well. "Today, more than 25 years after the emergence of the disease, it is startling to learn that facts about HIV/AIDS are still a guessing game for much of the world and that many are still in the dark about the undeniable reality that HIV/AIDS shockingly remains a top global killer," said Nancy Mahon, executive director of the M-A-C AIDS Fund.
EASY FOR BLACK AND HUBER
The inexperience of Mauresmo and Kuznetsova's partnership showed in a one-sided final with Black's doubles expertise establishing an early dominance. And the powerful singles semi-finalist Mauresmo did not help matters by failing to hold her own serve once throughout the entire match. The victory meant Black kept her grip on the trophy she had won last year with Rennae Stubbs - on that occasion Huber was on the opposite side of the net. The victory made up for the doubles specialists' recent defeat in the final of the French Open. .
