See: Just like TV, except longer
As our first examples, how about the popular and rivaling sci-fi epics, Star Trek and Star Wars. At last count, the two series are neck and neck at 11 movies in total, although the Force is not so strong with George Lucas here, as this includes several non-theatrical releases such as two Ewok movies and Droids animated TV series that were reedited into two full-length videos. Still, the six that make up the cinematic releases make the Star Wars franchise the No. 3 highest grossing series of all time and given that half, and arguably the better half was released between 1977-83, its probably sold more tickets than the five Harry Potter movies. The voyages of the Starship Enterprise, on the other hand, span 11 full theatrical releases, from William Shatners Captain Kirk, to Patrick Stewarts Jean-Luc Picard and on to an entirely new cast that will star in this years upcoming prequel which will chronicles the early days of the Spock-Kirk story.
Prized frosh leaves Huskies
Daugherty said in Pullman that she couldn't comment. McCormack is the second player from the six-member recruiting class of 2007 to leave. Candice Nichols, a guard from Carson, Calif., participated in preseason practices before leaving before the first game. The balance of the recruiting class is made up of Mackenzie Argens of Seattle (Roosevelt); Kali Bennett of Ventura, Calif.; Sarah Morton of Monroe; and Katelan Redmon of Spokane. Argens has missed most of the season after surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament. .
Lundekvam fighting to save career
Thanks Claus but time for new blood. What's so annoying is, they knew about Claus and Svensson for ages yet did nothing - we'd probably not be in this state if we draughted in suitable replacements. They can't claim it was a surprise! Good foresight Saints, as usual! IDIOTS!! .
A President Like My Father
Andrew Sullivan seems to think so, and more or less bases his entire support for Barrack Obama on the man's face. (Even my reserved support for him goes deeper than that.) But it is not an “old guard" attitude to suggest the world is ugly and getting uglier. We live in a time of WW (world war) preconditions: Our economy is sliding down, down, down as anti-democratic forces are running amok around the planet prompting allied (NATO) Generals to start talking about abandoning their prohibitions against “first strike" nuclear options. I don't believe we can be inspired about any of this. And I don't think a right-of-center smooth talking candidate can pull it off. Despite Obama's seeming cakewalk through race-obsessed South Carolina, his campaign is apt to let some pretty vile features of the American character out of their cages (race and misogyny in his case, gender in Hillary's) when the “glow" of these victories will be far off indeed.
WILL’S WOMEN - Catch Shakespeare’s great heroines all on one stage
For a guy who wrote in the late 1500s to early 1600s, William Shakespeare was sure in touch with his feminine side. Some Shakespearean scholars call the Bard a feminist for painting such layered and complex women like Cleopatra or Katharina.Others say he portrayed women as victims - most end up murdered, mad or suicidal, like Desdemona or Ophelia. No matter which school of thought you subscribe to, Shakespeare was a masterful storyteller, weaving tales of murder, mystery, deceit, sex, lust and intrigue long before Dynasty'' or Desperate Housewives.''Desdemona was murdered by her husband, Othello, because he suspected infidelity. Ophelia, Hamlet's sweetheart, went crazy and drowned. Cleopatra is the role many scholars consider the most complex of the Bard's women - she's a diva with the characteristics of a tragic hero.Shakespeare's women are immensely complex characters,'' said Rebekah Maggor, who wrote and performs in the one-woman show, Shakespeare's Actresses in America,'' under way through Feb.
Domenico Nesci charms the ladies, Italian-style, on new MTV dating ...
The gregarious 26-year-old from Milan, Italy, endeared himself to fans during his stint as a Speedo-wearing contestant on MTV's dating show, "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila," though he failed to win over Tequila. Still, MTV saw potential in Nesci and made him the star of a spin-off, "That's Amore," in which 15 women from across America fight for his attention by facing off in such challenges as spaghetti-wrestling matches. "It's probably the most romantic show on TV, so crazy, dramatic and very very funny — Italian style," Nesci told The Associated Press. "I use all my heart, all my feelings; whatever I have, I give it all." He said he has lots of amore to give. .
CU students urge resignations
Each volunteer will be issued an extra-large butterfly net. The hunt will then begin. When I blow my whistle, we will scatter in every direction and catch as many chinks as possible. Make sure to pay special attention to the Rec Center, the UMC, the math and engineering buildings and Lollicup. If you're not sure if someone is a chink, give them a calculus problem to do in their head. If they get it right, net 'em. Captured chinks will be dragged to my apartment on the Hill and hog-tied. Once they're all secured in my living room, "Phase 2" will come into effect. The chinks' reformation will begin with a 100-round beer pong tournament. They will listen to "It's a Small World" on repeat while they play. When the tournament is finished, the chinks will then be forced to eat bad sushi from Hapa-with forks.
Michelle Obama Retools "I'm Proud" Remark
Obama himself gave a similar explanation during an interview Tuesday with WOAI radio in San Antonio, Texas. Expressing frustration that his wife's remarks had been taken out of context and turned into political fodder, the Illinois senator said, "What she meant was, this is the first time that she's been proud of the politics of America, because she's pretty cynical about the political process, and with good reason, and she's not alone. But she has seen large numbers of people get involved in the process, and she's encouraged." Michelle Obama was campaigning in Rhode Island two weeks before the state's March 4 primary. She planned a rally later with her brother, Craig Robinson, the coach of the Brown University men's basketball team. MMVIII The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.
