Sentinel Lunchtime Blog (Valentine's Day Edition): The laws of love online
It's been a while since one of my singles blogs have been written and posted. Those of you out there who actually read these things may have wondered if I'd stopped writing because I'm no longer single. Sadly, that's not the case.Today is Valentine's Day and I, like many others, am single. If it weren't for writing this blog, I would have conveniently "forgotten" today was the day of love, flowers, candy and candlelight. However, while perusing stories from the Associated Press, I came across a relationships article detailing a new law in New Jersey requiring online dating sites to perform background checks on its users. As an alum of online dating, my interest was piqued. My first thought was, well, that's a good idea — Internet dating can be dangerous. Then I got to thinking and realized, as the article points out, background checks are pointless in the world of dating.Think about it.

New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard defied the notion that big men don't win dunk contests, slamming his way to victory Saturday night in the first ever competition in which the winner was determined by the fans. Howard had a perfect total of 100 for his two first round dunks -- one of which featured a Superman cape -- then unveiled a pair of previously unseen slams to unseat 2007 titlist Gerald Green in the final round. Toronto Raptors forward Jason Kapono defended his three-point shootout championship, tying the single-round record established by former Chicago Bulls marksman Craig Hodges in 1986 with a final round score of 25. Kapono outgunned Cleveland Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson and 2006 champ Dirk Nowitzki in the final round to run away with the victory and retain his throne.
SPIEGEL INTERVIEW WITH THE CO-FOUNDERS OF MYSPACE
Anderson: In person I don't have that many friends. I'm a pretty tight-knit guy with the people that I know. Offline, I have no more than four or five friends. SPIEGEL: That doesn't seem to bother your online acquaintances. They comment on your private pictures and leave public messages like "maybe we can hook up later" on your profile. How has becoming an online celebrity as the founder of such a successful company changed your life? Anderson: When I'm on the net, someone always wants to chat with me. But outside of MySpace, it's a completely different world. I don't get recognized that much on the street. SPIEGEL: How did you guys meet? Anderson: I had a temporary job in a product testing company right after college. I only planned to be there for 3 weeks.
Wuthnow files to retain Harvey Co. sheriff’s post
Every day I think I learn something new," Wuthnow said. "The position of Harvey County sheriff doesn’t consist of writing tickets and investigating crime. We have patrol officers and investigators who do that. This job is managerial, taking care of the staff we have here. My responsibility also entails the physical upkeep of the law enforcement center and detention center." As sheriff, Wuthnow has also been working to establish new programs. The department added a K-9 unit this year, added a new computerized system to track evidence that interfaces with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s, and added an Explorer Boy Scout Troop. Wuthnow said the K-9 unit has been successful in helping the sheriff’s department make drug-related arrests. "They have been very successful," Wuthnow said.

Amanda Brooks has been a stripper, a bikini-bar waitress, and a professional escort. But her most recent title she earned with all her clothes on. Brooks (her "professional name") is the self-published author of The Internet Escorts Handbook Book 1: The Foundation, the debut chapter of a four-part series that the author is hoping will become a canon for online escorts. Aimed at already-established escorts and women considering the job, The Internet Escorts Handbook tackles questions that are existential (Is This Something You Really Want To Do?), medical ("What If Your Client Has an STI?"), and practical (Whats the Best Way to Clean Up Condoms?). The book also includes entire sections addressing an escorts personal appearance ("Misconception #9: I have to be blonde and have big boobs, or be model-thin, to make money.
Benton County Sheriff Candidates State Cases
Then a decision will be made if it is opportune for me to lend him my writing skills. He has offered to meet me for a cup of coffee somewhere of if I can't get out, to possibly come to my house for a face to face meeting. I can better evaluate a person if I can look them straight in the eyes while I'm talking to them. I did do some comparing of all three men running for the Sheriff's office and found Mr. Lee to be the best qualified candidate. That's a complete turnaround for me. At first blush, I was not supportive of him running again. But in all fairness, and with a little prodding from his supporters, I decided to give him another look. I'm glad I did. I've kept my responses simple for all the other bloggers here. " .
Stepchildren use parents' house as party central
Dear Abby: I married a man with two adult children. When I met him, "Jerry" was a single father whose ex-wife had died soon after their divorce. I have two small children who live with us. Jerry has been a wonderful husband and stepfather. When we married years ago, we both owned our own homes. We jointly decided to rent mine and live in his. Whenever we go away on a vacation, his children use our home without asking. There have been parties, complaints from neighbors, our house left in disarray, and "friends" I don't know sleeping in my children's beds. In the past, Jerry tolerated this behavior. .
