| AOL Personals – Zogby Poll Probes American Views on Love and ...
Dulles, Va. and Utica, New York. More than 4 in 10 Americans (44%), including 50% in their 20s dont believe that they need to be married to validate the commitment of a long-term relationship, according to a survey from AOL Personals (http://personals.aol.com) and Zogby*. This is just one of the many findings from a new interactive survey of Americans age 20 to 69 that tackles how different generations view a wide range of relationship issues from love to soul mates, money and trust. While many dont believe marriage is the ultimate symbol of commitment, there are significant differences among older and younger adults regarding how they view dating while nearly half of Americans said they would date someone who is not interested in a long-term relationship, older adults tend to be more open to dating without fixating on how long a relationship might last.
Tommy Suharto countersues over Indonesian land scam
THE youngest son of Indonesia's ex-dictator Suharto has filed a counter-lawsuit against the national logistics agency Bulog, seeking about a billion dollars in damages, his lawyer said. Bulog in August filed a civil suit against Hutomo Mandala Putra – known as Tommy – alleging he was involved in a 1995 land exchange scam through Goro Batara Sakti (GBS), a company for which he was a commissioner. Bulog is seeking 550 billion rupiah ($A67.67 million) in material and immaterial damages. But Tommy Suharto's lawyer, Elza Syarief, told the South Jakarta district court that it should reject Bulog's claims. "All the accusations were filed in a criminal case in 2000 in which Tommy Suharto was cleared of all charges," she said.
Articles gave distorted picture of East Hanover
EDITOR: I am writing to address two front-page articles from your Feb. 7 edition, which have been bothering me since I read them. The first one is the headline "No More Benefits for Part-timers," the subtext reads "East Hanover to Reign in Insurance." Now, I agree that part-timers should not get benefits but I was under the impression that the only ones eligible were elected officials and that none were currently receiving them.By ending your article with ‘Health benefits had previously extended to all township employees,’ you make it sound as if previous administrations had given them to all those people in the list you included in the article; everyone from the elevator sub code official to summer life guards. Please check and find out how many employees lost their benefits and how much money the township saved. My guess on both counts is zero.Secondly, your article on the East Hanover Council honoring John DePola with a plaque implied that he had been slighted by the prior mayor, Bill Agnellino and not presented with any recognition when he left office. Mayor Pannullo is even quoted "it was a long time coming." Baloney, at the last meeting of 2006, Mayor Agnellino honored John DePola with an engraved clock in thanks for his service to the township. I just wonder what was the need for this distortion and grandstanding? .
Sex lessons must start at age five
How many of us, despite O levels and university educations, have been locked in the heat of passion where a purple haze blots out all logic and thoughts of any consequence that the next 10 minutes might bring. If you haven't, then you haven't lived and cannot comment on the matter. This article points to a solution which mirrors the motto of the Boy Scouts, "Be Prepared". .
'Blue Jean Confidential' gives dirt on denim
To be honest, I was fooled by the title. After inserting Blue Jean Confidential (CBC, 8 tonight) into the DVD player, I was expecting a wide-ranging documentary about a certain former prime minister. Instead, I watched a wide-ranging documentary about denim. Don't get me wrong. Who isn't fascinated by the history of jeans? Still, is there an elite Confidential Team operating within the public broadcaster? I'm imagining a subterranean space, all gleaming steel and glass, where they secretly convene to discuss pitches. Confidential Team Leader: "Before we begin, I have a funny story to share. Somebody in the documentary unit mentioned Canada's mission in Afghanistan and said we should commission a piece called Combat Confidential. "I laughed so hard I nearly dislodged the microchip Stursberg implanted in my brainstem! These old-timers are so quaint, aren't they? So what do we have?" Confidential Team Member: "That is a funny story! Thank you for sharing, Team Leader! So and so wants to do a piece on slippers.

If you'd like an answer to your romantic troubles, e-mail them at S&M@phillynews.com or write: S&M c/o Daily News, Box 7788, Philadelphia, PA 19101. Q: I'm a 27-year-old woman who has been married for 18 months. So far, things have been great. My husband is loving and supportive, and we get along well. There is one small problem: He insists on showering with me every day. I thought this was cute at first, but now it's a pain. It's crowded - sometimes I just want to be alone and relax. And when I need to shave my legs, I have to take another shower later. I suggested we shower separately, and he got all hurt and mopey for a few days.
George Splurges on $40,000 Suite for Valentine's Day
While most guys were buying chocolate and roses for their gals, George Clooney spent $40,000 on a luxury suite for girlfriend Sarah Larson. The couple spent Valentine's Day at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, and sparing no expense, they checked into the Hugh Hefner Sky Villa in the Playboy Tower. The lovebirds had a romantic dinner at Nove and capped their special night with a big dose of “Love," the Cirque Du Soleil Beatles show at the Mirage. .
Pregnant commuter stood up
I will always stand up if required, but the situation is not always as clear as it seems. At times I have not stood up and been given nasty looks, butit is not worth the effort to explain that although I look fit and healthy, I have 2 bad knees, a bad ankle and shoulder and it is very difficult to stand up on a jerking train for too long. I do agree though that society now is too focussed inwards and rarely do people care about anyone else. Posted by: Dave M of Brisbane 2:46pm February 07, 2008 Comment 196 of 247 .
eHarmony.com sued for excluding homosexuals
LOS ANGELES, Calif. A Los Angeles woman has sued the popular online dating site eHarmony.com, claiming she was discriminated against based on her sexual orientation when the Web site refused to pair her with another woman. eHarmony was founded in 2000 by Neil Clark Warren, an evangelical with ties to Focus on the Family, and it has grown to more than 12 million registered users, according to Reuters. The lawyer for the woman, Linda Carlson, said the lawsuit was "about changing the landscape and making a statement out there that gay people, just like heterosexuals, have the right and desire to meet other people with whom they can fall in love." Carlson is urging fellow homosexuals to join the class action lawsuit geared toward forcing eHarmony to change its policy.
The government has jailed thousands of militant Is
Despite the significance of El-Sherif's May declaration — or the “non-violence initiative," as local media has taken to calling it —skeptics allege that the jihadis are repenting only to buy their way out of prison. Those skeptics misunderstand the core of jihadi Islam: A mujahid is willing to give his life for his principles, as he believes that Paradise awaits him the moment he dies in this life. Nothing short of a change in core beliefs would influence a jihadi to renounce violence, say indsiders. According to former EIJ member Kamal Habib, now a prominent writer on Islamist movements, the Islamic Jihad review marks a mammoth change in the very core of Al-Jihad's beliefs. Habib was imprisoned in the 1980s and embraced nonviolence in the early 1990s, several years before his release after nearly a decade behind bars.
