AOL Personals – Zogby Poll Probes American Views on Love and ...

Dulles, Va. and Utica, New York. More than 4 in 10 Americans (44%), including 50% in their 20s dont believe that they need to be married to validate the commitment of a long-term relationship, according to a survey from AOL Personals (http://personals.aol.com) and Zogby*. This is just one of the many findings from a new interactive survey of Americans age 20 to 69 that tackles how different generations view a wide range of relationship issues from love to soul mates, money and trust.

While many dont believe marriage is the ultimate symbol of commitment, there are significant differences among older and younger adults regarding how they view dating while nearly half of Americans said they would date someone who is not interested in a long-term relationship, older adults tend to be more open to dating without fixating on how long a relationship might last.

Beware Yahoo Personals’ deceptive billing policy

You might be wondering what a post like this is doing on a blog largely about VoIP, but bear with me. To some extent, this post is about VoIP.

And athough I try not to air my consumer grievances here, I am writing this post to warn you about a practice that your knowledge of can save you some dollars.

OK, first let us go back a year. My love life, my dating life, was in a rough patch. (If you want details, you buy the next pitcher).

Not wanting to remain in the state I just referred to, I decided I would declare a jihad on loneliness. Being a creature of the Internet, I posted a profile on several dating sites including Yahoo! Personals.

My Match.com profile soon led to a happy result. That's her photo on the top of my CPU tower.

As soon as the ultimately "happy result" became quantifiable, I let my Yahoo! Personals account lapse.

How the 'clean factor' plays in relationships

It's no surprise to this self-proclaimed germ freak that, in the world of relationships, the "clean" factor weighs more than some may have thought.

When Yahoo Personals and Clorox teamed up to do a survey about how cleanliness affects our love lives, they discovered some very interesting proclivities:

-- Almost one-third of respondents found that when it comes to selecting a partner, a person's domestic cleaning habits are very important, and bad habits can be a deal breaker.

-- More people would rather date a germ freak than a complete slob.

-- Six out of 10 people consider cleaning compatibility to be as important as sharing common interests.

-- Over one-third of respondents said their dates had to be both neat and clean, and the vast majority felt they had to be at least neat or clean.

Salmond: Back my Budget or I will seek election

Tom Harris, Glasgow South MP, told The Herald: "This is cynical grandstanding by Alex Salmond. He's already done a deal with the Tories, it is all just an empty threat."

However, the SNP government claimed discussions on the support of Conservatives, Greens and independent MSP Margo MacDonald were "ongoing". But the SNP, with 47 votes, is confident that it can count on their support to reach the minimum 65 votes it needs for a majority.

Part of the deal-making process was an exchange of letters yesterday in which the SNP's junior justice minister, Fergus Ewing, spelled out to Tory justice spokesman Bill Aitken how he intends to meet the Conservative demands on drugs policy.

Conservatives have also used their 16-MSP leverage for more spending to recruit 500 more police by 2011, and await an announcement today from Finance Secretary John Swinney, which is expected to meet the third demand of accelerating the introduction of a small businesses' rates relief scheme.

Maher: Why Didn’t Rush Die from Drugs Instead of Heath Ledger?

After all, just imagine despising a radio talk show host so much that you would suggest, on national television, that he should die of a drug overdose.

Alas, such was the case Friday evening when HBO's Bill Maher actually asked guest P.J. O'Rourke, who was talking about Rush Limbaugh's use of the prescription drug OxyContin (disgusting question after the jump):

SUCCESSFUL DAY FOR ENGLAND

But after storming to a semi-final win over Elizabeth Cann from Jersey, winning 21-17 21-8, Hallam is convinced she has the ammunition to win the gold medal.

Hallam's unseeded opponent, Cann, is now just one win away from delivering the first Channel Islands medal of the Commonwealth Games when she play-offs for a bronze medal with Scotland's Susan Hughes.

"I'm going to sleep early, have an ice bath and a day off tomorrow to celebrate my birthday," said Hallam.

"The mixed event is over now, so I just have to go out and do my best. The pressure is on the Malaysian, it's up to her.

England's assault on the podium finishes gathered further momentum in the badminton as Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms guaranteed a silver medal in Melbourne.

The Athens Olympic silver medallists disposed of Singapore's Hendri Saputra and Yujia Li in their semi-final, battling back from a set down to win 19-21 21-14 21-17.

Cops: KFC manager beat to death with chair

I wish you people would quit making EVERYTHING a race issue. It is what it is, I do not care if he would have been purple he still beat a helpless 61 year old to death with a chair. Can you imagine?? Also do not tell me this wasn't a planned out thing. KFC NEVER has that much money in a front safe at one time so he waited til the "more profitable" weekend came and right before brinks came. To his parents, your son took a life.... You think about that the rest of your lives!!! " .
