| AOL Personals – Zogby Poll Probes American Views on Love and ...
Dulles, Va. and Utica, New York. More than 4 in 10 Americans (44%), including 50% in their 20s dont believe that they need to be married to validate the commitment of a long-term relationship, according to a survey from AOL Personals (http://personals.aol.com) and Zogby*. This is just one of the many findings from a new interactive survey of Americans age 20 to 69 that tackles how different generations view a wide range of relationship issues from love to soul mates, money and trust. While many dont believe marriage is the ultimate symbol of commitment, there are significant differences among older and younger adults regarding how they view dating while nearly half of Americans said they would date someone who is not interested in a long-term relationship, older adults tend to be more open to dating without fixating on how long a relationship might last.

Beware Yahoo Personals’ deceptive billing policy
You might be wondering what a post like this is doing on a blog largely about VoIP, but bear with me. To some extent, this post is about VoIP. And athough I try not to air my consumer grievances here, I am writing this post to warn you about a practice that your knowledge of can save you some dollars. OK, first let us go back a year. My love life, my dating life, was in a rough patch. (If you want details, you buy the next pitcher). Not wanting to remain in the state I just referred to, I decided I would declare a jihad on loneliness. Being a creature of the Internet, I posted a profile on several dating sites including Yahoo! Personals. My Match.com profile soon led to a happy result. That's her photo on the top of my CPU tower. As soon as the ultimately "happy result" became quantifiable, I let my Yahoo! Personals account lapse.
Luciano’s passing rekindles hurt, pain
After grieving the loss of his sister, Yvonne Bustamante, and his four-day old child, Michael Bustamante Sr. faced his biggest challenge Thursday. He said good-bye to the love of his life. Juanita "Jane" Luciano died of her injuries Thursday afternoon, sustained during a robbery at Headley Nationwide Insurance Dec. 13 in which suspect Leon Davis Jr. allegedly doused her with gasoline and set her on fire. Services are planned for 4 p.m. Sunday at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home, 454 South Buck Moore Road in Lake Wales. Her closest friends reflected Friday on their friendship with her and say she is going to be "greatly missed." Stefanie Davis and Jacque Hare completed a lunchtime quartet as Yvonne Bustamante and Jane Luciano would often join them midday at the Lake Wales Family Restaurant.
Bush Leaves Saturday for 5-Country Tour of Africa
It's a great tragedy on the continent," Stephen Hadley, Bush's national security adviser, said Wednesday. He said about a half-dozen of the conflicts in Africa are on the way toward resolution but, "unfortunately, what's happening in Kenya is a step backwards." Hadley called for an end to violence in Kenya accompanied by a wave of humanitarian assistance and a power-sharing arrangement. "That obviously means, at some point, free and fair elections," Hadley said. He said Bush would discuss Kenya with all the leaders he meets. Congo is threatening to explode yet again, with government forces battling those of a rebel warlord. Zimbabwe's political and economic crisis continues to deepen. The 2005 peace accord that ended Sudan's north-south conflict is feared to be in danger of collapsing, while the western Darfur region has now seen five years of atrocities by government-supported militias against black African communities that Bush calls genocide.
Diamond Mogul Receives Angry Valentine
JDate users scouring the Jewish dating Web site in anticipation of Valentine's Day may have found a surprising match. Lev Leviev, the controversial Israeli diamond mogul, had appeared to register a profile on the site, including such information as, “in my free time, I enjoy: Exploitation, Profiteering, Union-Busting, and Macrame." The JDate profile was one of several recent Valentine's Day-themed acts of protest directed at Leviev, who in reality is not looking for love online but is a married father of nine and an active member of the Chabad-Lubavitch sect of Orthodox Judaism. His detractors oppose his use of diamond mines in Angola and what they say is his extensive involvement in housing construction for Jewish settlers on the West Bank. “Because a great deal of jewelry shopping goes on during the weekend before Valentine's Day, we thought it was appropriate to reach out to Valentine's Day shoppers and encourage them to stay away from Leviev's shop," said Issa Mikel, a human rights activist who works with Adalah-NY, a coalition of organizations strongly critical of Israeli policy.
Pairs loss caps Sherriff's Open nightmare
THE $120,000 Australian Open in Melbourne turned into a horror show for world singles silver medallist Aron Sherriff yesterday when he completed a hat-trick of first-round exits. The 21-year-old from NSW tumbled out of the triples on Sunday, the singles on Monday and the pairs yesterday with Australian teammate Nathan Rice. But continuing the trend of upsets on slowish greens, Sherriff was in good company with other first-round losers including Terry Antram/Steve Glasson, Gerard Beath/Leif Selby, Barrie Lester/Scott Caundle and Robert Thompson/Anthony Kiepe. And round 2 saw the departures of Shannon Gittoes and Kelvin Kerkow, and Wayne Turley and Mark Casey. Little-known Wynnum Leagues player Paul Laycock is one of five Queenslanders through to the last 16 in the men's singles which carries $18,000 prizemoney.
