Beware Yahoo Personals’ deceptive billing policy

You might be wondering what a post like this is doing on a blog largely about VoIP, but bear with me. To some extent, this post is about VoIP.

And athough I try not to air my consumer grievances here, I am writing this post to warn you about a practice that your knowledge of can save you some dollars.

OK, first let us go back a year. My love life, my dating life, was in a rough patch. (If you want details, you buy the next pitcher).

Not wanting to remain in the state I just referred to, I decided I would declare a jihad on loneliness. Being a creature of the Internet, I posted a profile on several dating sites including Yahoo! Personals.

My Match.com profile soon led to a happy result. That's her photo on the top of my CPU tower.

As soon as the ultimately "happy result" became quantifiable, I let my Yahoo! Personals account lapse.

Barack Obama - a John Kennedy for our times

Obama mania is sweeping the U.S. I agree that party superluminaries, known as superdelegates, might be throwing away the election should they go against the express votes of the majority of Americans who voted in primaries and caucuses across the U.S. Hillary's had it, but is in a state of denial and grabbing. It's a true tragedy - this whippersnapper comes along and takes away her prize that she was a good party member and waited for. That's politics. Hope over status quo; young people mobilised again; Americans who haven't voted in years swarm to the polls. Beware Republicans! Those who've supported Bush and his programmes - Beware! November is coming! Carole Bell www.Americans-Away-From-Home.com

Loathing love's day: What's wrong with Feb. 14?

What's not to love about Valentine's Day? Well, how about cultural offensiveness, emotional insensitivity, rampant consumerism, and even encouraging date rape? And those are just a few items from the charge sheet. Setting out to uncover people's objections to Feb. 14 is a bit like opening the door of an overstuffed closet, with just the smallest effort producing an avalanche. A lot of people, and even a few countries, just don't agree with the idea of setting aside a day to commemorate love, romance and relationships.

Of course, it starts with the lonely, or those in unrequited love. Some may have said it better, but none more frankly than poetic songstress Jewel in I Hate Valentine's Day. Full Story

Is Valentine's Day still relevant to you?

Among the hundreds who gathered to hear the service relayed on loudspeakers was Derek Moore, 33, a Motherwell fan for 25 years, from Carfin.

Malpractice judgments will be posted on College's website, thanks to ...

Ontario doctors will soon be required to report any malpractice judgments and out-of-court settlements when they annually renew their licence, along with any drug or alcohol addictions. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario says it is going above and beyond what the government is demanding of all health regulatory bodies – posting malpractice judgments against any health professional on a public website – to better ensure patient safety.

Beginning June 1, 2009, Ontario residents will be able to find out on the college's website if their doctor has any malpractice judgments or criminal convictions.

The measures come as the result of a Toronto Star series last year on medical secrecy, which exposed the lack of public information about health professionals and hospitals, including surgical complication rates and hospital infection rates.
